California Waves from David Orias

Living in Santa Barbara, California I feel  privileged, blessed, lucky, thankful and any other synonym that applies because I get to spend my days at the most beautiful beaches in the world. Every time I stick my toes in the sand I try and remind myself that basically anyone east of me wants to be standing right where I am.  With that being said I have never seen waves like these! David Orias captured California's golden sunshine reflecting against the calm but powerful ocean waves.  He shot with long exposures at dusk and sunset for the best lighting in Northern California. Sony A99 Video "Deja Who?" Short Film

Rounded up a few buddies for round 2 of spontaneous film making.  If your not familiar with the process, I get a few friends, grab our trusty camera, and start filming.  There is no premeditation of the script, characters, locations, or storyboard.  We make it up as we go.  We came up with what I thought was a pretty funny concept of a girl that gets hit on by the same guy over and over again with a little twist.  If your from Santa Barbara then you will recognize all your favorite local dwellings.  A special thanks to Elsie's bartenders for working with us on the spot and being all around good people.

You can check out last weeks spontaneous film here.

P.S.
If you have an idea for a short film let us know in the comments.  We might just make your idea next week!

Vendor Spotlight x TLR & Co.

It takes confidence and swag to wear a "Gangs in America” shirt around Santa Barbara but TLR&Co's founding brothers, Christian and Ruben wanted a street ware brand that reflects the unapologetic views of America's youth while still looking fitted in the streets.  Read more about TLR & Co. after the jump.

VRZ 2 Belt Driven 3D Printed Bike

3D printing has gotten an unfair bad rap in the mainstream media for printing guns as of late, but honestly not everyone is producing guns as you can see with this beautiful 3D Printed fixed gear bike.  The bike is as light as a feather, stiff as a board, and printed at home.  The stem, seat, and other connecting components were all molded out of titanium using a 3D printer and then finished with a gold paint job.  The design by Ralf Holleis comes in weighing at less than 11 pounds.  It features a belt-drive crank system, carbon-fiber wheels, a low profile seat, and looks that could kill (pun intended).  Excited to see what else 3D printers will be manufacturing in the coming year.  More photos after the jump.

Lamborghini Egoista Concept

Lamorghini surprised everyone during their company's 50th anniversary with a spectacular design by Walter Da Silva whom is the head of design at the Volkswagen group.  The 600 horsepower 5.2 liter V10 engine Lamorghini Egoista is a show stopping jaw dropping concept car that will unfortunately never see production.  One can only dream of being able to drive this single seater supercar that was inspired by an Apache helicopter.  The cockpit, I mean drivers seat, is made completely of carbon fiber and aluminum that perfectly houses the driver from the outside elements.  Egoista, which stands for Ego in Italian, matches up with the car well as it is only built for one.  More photos after the jump.

Make It Count - Nike

The king of sporting goods, Nike, employed the movie director/editor Max Joseph and Casey Neistat to produce an advertisement for the FuelBand, showcasing the phrase "Make It Count ." What Nike didn't anticipate was everything the two-man team would do next .  At the final moment , the duo abandoned the agreed-upon location , then initiated on their own adventure across the world making use of Nike's funds and advice to "Make It Count ."   It only took ten days to deplete Nike's payment . Neistat and Joseph traveled 34 ,000 miles , going to 16 metropolitans in 13 countries on 3 continents . The outcome is a 4 and a half minute movie , which still attributes Nike's "Make It Count" labeling . In just three days, the video racked up more than 1.5 million views.  Did they make it count?  I think so.  Joseph and Neistat did an extraordinary job taking simple slogan and creating something inspiring and meaningful.  What will you do in your lifetime to "Make it Count"?

Cat women leather suit.  Check.  3D visuals of space.  Check.  Angelic voice.  Check.  Housing slump'n bassline.  Check.  4 Reasons to start your Monday off better than it began.

Perhaps I've been living under a rock the past 3 months, but I've never heard of Hot Natured until I was desperately trying to find a decent song on Beatport that didn't include a predictable corny electro David Guetta-esk drop.  Whatever the reason I came across, I'm happy I discovered them.  Their sound resembles genres of house/techno/disco/soul.  The 4 man/woman team is making a breakthrough with their latest single "Reverse Skydiving".  Check out their tour dates on their website and have a listen for yourself below.  (download the free mp3 by right click save as)

Sony A99 Video Survival of the Fittest Short Film

Yum.  Got some brand spanking new camera gear in this week (Switched back to Sony from Canon), so I was itching to test it out.  Called up a few buddies and made this quick run & gun video to see what it was capable of.  It's really funny too because if you knew these guys in real life they are super nice, so they are definitely out of character here, but that's what you get when you planned with no location, no storyboard, and everything was just made up on the spot and done on the fly, so don't over think it.  I got the idea from a time in the Philippines on Cebu Island when I made a run & gun video with my cousins (Check it out after the jump).  We are going to be planning more of these in the future, so if anyone in Santa Barbara wants to get involved in some short films for fun let us know in the comments below.
For the camera geeks out there.  Shot and edited in about 6 hours on a Sony A99 x CZ2470 2.8, Steadyshot Stabilization was used throughout filming, and it was shot at ISO 1600, 2000, 3200, & 6400.  The Sony A99 is rocking out awesome dynamic range, color rendition, auto white balance, and focus peaking for video, but gets a little shimmering and is running into a few moire issues.  Can't have it all, eh?

An old short from Philippines after the jump.

♪Track of the Day /// Joywave x Tounges Featuring KOPPS

Joywave hailing from Rochester has released their new mixtape 88888 and the band took an interesting approach to creating 88888.  Frontman Daniel Armbruster, created the record without introducing new material but rather rethought the original sounds and recreated material from the band's debut EP, Koda Vista.  The idea was inspired by not only in the dance and hip-hop tradition of the remix, but also the paintings of Expressionist painter Edvard Munch, whom recreated the same painting several times in order to find the best way to communicate with his audience.  Take a listen to their first single "Tougues" below.

The Circle Line by Adam Wells

Get a kick out of Adam Well's latest short animation in The Circle Line.  Stylized in a retro futuristic sci-fi setting watch as the main character seemingly blazes through all of lifes ups and downs in an odd utopian/dystopian world.  The pacing is quick and the sound is wonderful.  Enjoy.
